So Karl Lagerfeld’s remarks about Adele being “a little too fat” and Michelle Obama having a “big black ass” are all over the Internet today. There’s outrage and anger toward his comments, but nothing at all from any of his contemporaries in the fashion world. I’d take the fashion industry more seriously if it actually gave enough of a fuck to speak out against Lagerfeld and others who think as hatefully as he does.

Are you KIDDING? This is the industry that sat around applauding Oprah for losing weight in order to be on the cover of Vogue Magazine (after Anna Wintour insisted. The day I stopped paying any attention to Oprah whatsoever was this issue. I read about her desperately losing 15 pounds to be on the cover. The most powerful woman in the American tv industry and she loses weight to be on the cover of the freakin’ magazine. She went on and on about how excited she was that designers made dresses to fit her for the photoshoot. A woman who could afford to have anyone in the world make her a dress. It came off as a pathetic grovelling for acceptance from the Mean Girls. Made mes so sad that she presented herself as needing this affirmation.). This is the industry that cropped and ‘shopped Adele when she was in Vogue. This is the industry that hires skinnier and skinnier models with less and less body fat every single year.
