Wanted to let my daughter-in-law have a chance to post a photo of her own cake, to her Tumblr Till You Run Out of Cake, but she’s been too busy working at the bakery to do so!
Last year, she did a Charlie Chaplin cake as well…it was for a woman who had met Chaplin when she was a child, and was an event that had a lot of impact for her. And it was her 99th birthday…
We-ell…THIS Chaplin cake? Notice the ‘100’—yes, it’s for the SAME woman! Here’s hoping this becomes a series…
(I’m including a link to Chaplin—Ty and I were at the bank one day and somehow got talking about people whose fame completely outlasts their lifetime. The teller was completely confused as to who Charlie Chaplin was no matter how Ty tried to explain him. So, perhaps The Little Tramp’s time is up?)
I’ve been trying to be good and not post photos until my daughter-in-law got the time to do so—but she’s too busy decorating MORE cakes to have the time right now. THIS is the cake she made for my son’s 16th birthday—Umbrella Corp from Resident Evil (he’s currently obsessed with the latest version of the game). And yes, those are severed arms sticking out the sides. My favourite is a little hand creeping up onto the number ‘6’.
Taylor was awed, amazed and slightly creeped out! The arms were on toothpicks so another of my kids pulled one out and posed with it sticking out of his mouth. My daughter actually got so creeped out that she asked me to “pull the arm” off her piece of cake before she could eat it.
(if you like this cake, follow Jess’ Tumblr Till You Run Out of Cake. She posts more of her designs there…)

I got to do a “Jasmine” inspired engagement cake. They got a ridiculous deal because they asked me to design it, THEN told me the budget when I was already too excited to say no
Holy cow. Every part of this is amazing.I can’t believe that flower!
My daughter-in-law (Till You Run Out Of Cake)came over for her birthday dinner…and brought her own cake! She had the box thoroughly taped up so no one could peek, “so it will be a surprise for everyone else when I bring it to the table.” She made the characters Anders and Fenris from Dragon Age 2, one of her favourite video games.
It’s the anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s birth…so here’s a cake made by my daughter-in-law just a month or two ago. Apparently, Berthe had met Chaplin when she was a young girl, and her family thought that would be an appropriate image for her cake. Had a closeup pic of Charlie at one point, but can’t find it at the moment…
(Just wondering how many people under the age of 40 know who Charlie Chaplin is. A couple of months ago, The Guy and I were in the bank and he was telling a story of a student who had never seen Seinfeld at all and didn’t know who Jerry Seinfeld is. The very young bank teller announced, “Wow! I’m only 21 and I know who he is!” Somehow we got to Charlie Chaplin in the conversation and it became obvious that she had no idea what we were talking about… Ty said, “Charlie Chaplin? The Little Tramp? He starred in silent movies?” and she looked at him as if he were crazy and said, “Silent movies? What the heck are they?”
Yep, we’re old…
She found out, more or less last minute, that she had to do a “Justin Bieber” cake for a five year old girl’s birthday party. So, she sweated this out as quickly as she could…
The family turned up the next week and ordered a second one.
…and a frog pond cake for her best friend’s birthday.
