Ahh, Bun Toons…given that I turn up in this Toon, I feel free to comment here:
There was a certain irony to Ty doing a Toon last week about misinformation, about people jumping to conclusions based on little information etc. and having that Bun Toon lifted and posted without links and without the context of anything else he’d said. Someone commented
"Ty, I appreciate your perspective more now that I’ve read your comments as well as seen the cartoon. Since folks are posting the cartoon around the web, I just wish you had included some of that context and the link to help Gary with the cartoon as a final panel."
Obviously, it’s not possible to control the reblogging (and occasionally the editing) of Bun Toons, or the context in which people post them. And Ty can’t write and draw his Toons trying to figure out how people will chop them up and present them. We’ve seen people post the whole thing, the first few panels, the entire Toon and the entire column that goes with. People have posted links but explained the entire Toon in their commentary. We’ve seen people post only the punchline panel!! (When you’re a comedy writer, having the punchline ruined is the most painful thing!) And it’s not just fan sites—we’ve had major corporate sites reprint without any links or context.
So, if ya can, read ‘em on Ty’s originating site…then decide whether you’re going to yell at him.
